The Cypriot passport is steadily climbing the ranks as one of the most sought after travel documents in the world.
According to the most recent ranking of world passports by Henley & Partners, the Cyprus passport has climbed to the 14th spot for 2019, up from 15th place in 2019, 16th place in 2017, and 17th place in 2016. Its strongest position was the 12th spot in 2006, and the 13th in 2007. This year’s ranking leaves behind passports from countries such as the UAE, Romania, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia and Hong Kong.
The strength of the Cypriot passport lies in the fact that Cyprus passport holders have the ability to travel freely, without a visa, to 173 countries. Additionally, a Cypriot passport allows entry into 53 countries with a visa.
The Henley Passport Index by Henley & Partners uses expert commentary and historical data spanning 14 years, as well as exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), to rank the world’s passports according to their strength.
